Tree Care Program

Program Overview

The Tree Care Program is administered through the Department of Public Works and is responsible for the maintenance of trees on public grounds and within the right of way along streets. This program provides for the public safety through the removal of dead and dangerous limbs and trees along public ways and on public grounds. This program has historically also provided for the planting of additional shade trees to replace trees that have been removed.

The Town of Stoneham does not remove Town trees without good reason. The Town will not remove trees because they drop leaves, acorns, branches, sap, because it has grown too large, shades a private lawn, or because it is not conveniently located.

The removal of public shade trees requires a public hearing in front of the tree warden as prescribed by state law.
