Historic Preservation Month

May is annual Preservation Month, when the Stoneham Historical Commission sponsors a number of history-themed public events.  

FOR 2025,  all events are in person.  All are free and open to the public.

April 19 is the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington & Concord - the start of the American Revolution, and SHC, along with the Stoneham Historical Society & Museum and the Stoneham 300th Anniversary Committee are highlighting the stories of some of Stoneham's role in the conflict.

Thurs, April 10, Revolution on Our Doorstep, SHC chair Dolly Wilson will speak on participants in the Revolutionary War era in Stoneham. Discover the stories behind tea boycotts, the Minuteman who had a bullet graze his ear, mob protests to run loyalists out of town, (someone loses an eye!) our host of Black soldiers at Bunker Hill, and more stories from Revolutionary Stoneham. Sunday April 13, the Stoneham Historical Society will have their semi-annual Research Your House Day.  Peruse town street listings, maps, tax records and more to discover more about your house and the people who lived there before you. 1-4 pm, Stoneham Historical Society Museum, 36 William Street.  

Sun, April 27  30  - 1-pm  Special Guided tour of Revolutionary War Graves at the Old Burying Ground (Pleasant St at William) in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord.

Saturday, May 3, 10 am - 1 pm., Stoneham Town Common will see a family fun event with hands-on history, historic games, reenactors, demonstrations and more.  Activities depict life in this area in the 18th century in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord.

Thursday, May 8 - Joint meeting with the Historical Society - Dee Morris will talk about the Flowering of Central Square, a look at the stories of those who created some of Stoneham's most iconic buildings in the Square. -- at Stoneham Historical Society & Museum, 36 William St.

Tuesday, May 13 - Heritage Award presentation, Stoneham Select Board Meeting, 7 pm, Hearing Room, Town Hall

Sn, May 18- 1-3pm Open Day at the Old Burying Ground (Pleasant St at William). Live and podcast tours available.
