Chief Joe Rolli and the Stoneham Firefighters received the Historical Commission’s Annual Heritage Award for "exceptional contributions to preservation and awareness of Stoneham’s historical legacy" at the May 19th Selectmen's Meeting.
Joe is responsible for the $231,000 plus project using preservation funds to assess the fire station's current condition and develop prioritized recommendations for repairs and maintenance. The most obvious changes include the rust control and painting of the galvanized metal trim and the new apparatus bay doors that have been returned to their 1940's New England Green color.
May is Preservation Month and the 2009 theme is “This Place Matters”. We thank the Chief and his team for supporting the restoration of this historic building that has presided over Central Square for nearly a century.
