Sergeant Newell is an experienced law enforcement professional currently serving as the behavioral health supervisor with the Stoneham Police Department. With a strong background in criminology and sociology from Merrimack College, Zachary has risen through the ranks since joining the department in 2018. His roles have included supervising patrol forces, directing the field training program, and serving as the training director for advanced Taser models. Throughout his career, Zachary has been recognized for his exemplary service, receiving commendations such as the Defensive Driving Award from the MBTA Transit Police Academy and multiple letters of recognition from both the Boston Police Detectives and the Stoneham Police Chief. In 2022, he was honored as Officer of the Year by the Stoneham Police Patrolman’s Association and Supervisor’s Association. Zachary’s commitment to public safety is further demonstrated by his extensive training in areas such as crisis intervention, de-escalation, suicide prevention, and Officer wellness.
