The Memorial Day Parade Committee is a volunteer organization that’s purpose is to coordinate the activities involved in remembering our veterans on both Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Each year in preparation for Memorial Day, the committee coordinates decorating Stoneham veteran’s graves at our local Lindenwood Cemetery, Pleasant Street Cemetery (Old Burial Ground), St Patrick Cemetery, and Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
This is accomplished with the help of many volunteers from local organizations, among them the American Legion Post 115, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 620 and local Boy and Girl Scouts. This year over 3,000 flags were placed.
In 2020, we sponsored a week long Field of Honor flag display event for Veterans Day. Flags sponsorships were made in the name of veterans, first responders and active military and designated on inviidual flags on the field, for visitors to view. Event will be offered again each year. Proceeds from the Field of Honor were donated to the Stoneham Veterans Emergency Fund .
