Stoneham Increases Recycling Services

Stoneham Public Works is pleased to announce the addition of a Book and Media recycling bin outside of the Stevens Street Recycling Center. Available for donations everyday, this bin will take all books, CDs, DVDs and videogames to be processed and sold by More Than Words, a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. When asked why this company Operations Engineer David Lizotte stated “More Than Words works with at risk youth and the fact they have provided donation containers to dozens of other communities including Boston, Cambridge, Newton and Winchester really made it an easy choice.” In addition this increases the amount of Recycling Dividends earned from the MassDEP. The Recycling Dividend Program is a MassDEP funded grant that could award Stoneham $8,000 to $26,400 next year for recycling activities the Town currently does.
