Spring Closet Clean Out Contest

-A A +A

Stoneham Schools are challenging residents to clean out their closets for a good cause. As part of the ongoing textile donate drive Bay State Textiles has announced that if Stoneham exceeds 25,200 pounds, a little more than 1 pound per resident, of textile donations before June 1st the School Department will be awarded a $500 incentive bonus.

Every dollar raised supports programs for Stoneham students. The first three months of the donation drive has already raised over $1,000.

Residents shouldn’t be concerned about the quality of their donations as approximately 50% of donations are graded for reuse as used clothing and the remaining items are repurposed into wipes, carpet padding, insulation and other beneficial items. Donations include all footwear, clothing, linens, bed sheets, comforters, towels, throw rugs, hats, gloves and other similar items. If you can wear it, Bay State Textiles accepts it. The only condition is the items are free of oils, grease and are dry so as not to contaminate other donations.

Donation bins are located at every school, Stevens Street Recycling Center and at Town Hall in the Pine Street parking lot.
