Fire Explorer Program

-A A +A

The Town of Stoneham Fire Explorer Program was formed in 1993 and continues today through the combined efforts of the Stoneham Auxiliary Fire Department and the Learning For Life Foundation. We strive to meet the needs and concerns of the next generation of citizens.  Through mentoring by adult advisors and by their service to the community young men and women build character, foster citizenship, receive education and advanced their knowledge of the fire service.

The Stoneham Fire Explorer Program is comprised of approximately 25 young adults ages 14-21 who are eager to gain real life experiences through training, drills and exercises, exposing them to the various career opportunities available in the field of firefighting and emergency services.

Explorer's must be between 14 and 21 years old, maintain good grades in school, and have a professional appearance and demeanor to participate.  The Explorers develop their knowledge both in and out of the classroom with hands on training, drills and exercises.  Explorers also have many opportunities to help within the community at a wide variety of events held throughout the year.

If you or someone you know is interested in joining the post, please email us at and we will contact you to initiate the application process. Enrollment is open and ongoing.

Upon completion of the application process candidates will be given additional information on what he/she needs acquire for their uniform, and may start attending Explorer meetings and participate in training.  Once approved for membership in the Explorer Program, members must submit an administrative fee of $35 annually for mandatory liability insurance.

Explorer Meetings are held every Monday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. and completing at around 9:00 p.m. Explorers are expected to attend all scheduled meetings and events, and If an Explorer is not able to attend a meeting or event, they are required to call in before the start of that meeting.
