PUBLIC NOTICE
WATER FLUSHING PROGRAM
Starting on Monday, April 25, 2011, the Stoneham Water Department will be flushing water mains throughout the Town. Hours of operation will be between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. As part of our on-going maintenance program, we must periodically flush our distribution system to assure you, our customer, of a continued safe, dependable water service. The flushing program will likely be completed in approximately three weeks. Flushing will begin on North Border Road/South Street at Main Street (Friendly’s) and fan out in a northerly direction throughout the Town.
While the flushing of the system is in progress, numerous valves will be operated and hydrants flowed to achieve the final objective of a cleaner, safer, and more efficient water distribution system. The consumer should be aware that this flushing program will create dirty water conditions temporarily before the program is complete. Avoid washing clothes during the period of time that flushing is taking place in your section of the Town. If you must do laundry, do not use chlorine/bleach since this may produce discolored water. This will only be temporary and will result in better quality drinking water and a more efficient distribution system.
We realize our flushing program will cause some inconvenience for those who live in the area of flushing. We are working closely with your local officials and police departments to keep traffic problems to a minimum and to observe all safety precautions. Some flooding of streets will be created temporary during the week; please be careful.
