Meeting Minutes
Present for the Committee: Stephen Born, John Bowen, Ben Caggiano, John DeAmicis, Andrew Gould, James Sinclair, Nick Stavre, John Warren. and Russ Wilson.
Also Present: Jim Malarkey
1. Call to Order -- The meeting was called to order by Chairman J. Warren at 7:32 pm.
2. Approval of the Agenda -- The agenda was approved by the committee with one addition.
3. Minutes -- The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as submitted.
4. Unicorn Ice Arena Boiler Problems -- Rink manager Louis Chiulli appeared before the committee to inform them of the current gas boiler problems as Unicorn Ice Arena. All four burners are 40 years old. Three of the four are unsafe and off-line. Only one boiler is heating the building and heating water for the zamboni. There are constant complaints regarding the lack of heat and hot water in the rink. If the fourth and final boiler fails, the rink will need to be shut down. In addition, the pipes might freeze and burst. The initial estimate to replace the boilers is approximately $30,000. Lou is getting additional bids and hopes to have more information for the Finance and Advisory Board in the next few weeks. Lou may request emergency funds from the Finance and Advisory Board
at a subsequent meeting.
5. Capital Planning -- The Board of Selectmen will present a by-law for a capital planning committee at the next town meeting.
6. Audit Sub-committee -- The Audit Sub-Committee will meet separately with the auditors in the next few weeks. MOTION by J. Bowen TO APPOINT ANDREW GOULD TO THE AUDIT SUB-COMMITTEE. Seconded by N. Stavre. MOTION PASSES 9-0.
7. Time and Place of Next Meeting -- 12 February at 7:00 pm.
8. Adjournment -- The meeting was adjourned by Chairman J. Warren at 9:14 pm.
