Snow and Ice Program Frequently Asked Questions
My street has not yet been plowed, who do I call?

If it is not an emergency, please be patient. Your street will be plowed as quickly as possible.   Available plows must first clear all of the main roads, and chapter 90’s before they begin the residential streets.  If there is an emergency situation call the Public Works at 781-438-0760.  If there is a medical emergency, call 911.  Remember, Stoneham has over 85 miles of roads to plow!

I have a fire hydrant in front of my house, whose responsibility is it to shovel the snow from it?

Any fire hydrant that is located in front of a dwelling or business, is the responsibility of the property owner to keep clear.  The Public Works Department does not shovel out fire hydrants.

Is there any sand available for the residents of Stoneham to get for their property?

Yes, sand and salt mixed is usually available in front of the Stevens Street Recycling Center for the residents of Stoneham.  Please limit it to one bucket full only.
