When is the Senior Center open?
The building is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Center is closed on Legal Holidays. If the Stoneham Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather, then the Senior Center is also closed.

Where is the Senior Center located?
The building is located at 136 Elm Street at the end of a long driveway. It is on the left as you drive east on Elm Strret toward Wakefield.

From the North, take Main Street (Rte 28) to the intersection of Elm Street (Walgreen's Pharmacy and Blockbuster Video). Turn left at the traffic lights and follow Elm Street for 7/10ths of a mile. The Senior Center driveway is just beyond Saint Patrick Cemetery on the left.

From the South, take Main Street (Rte 28) to the intersection of Elm Street (Walgreen's Pharmacy and Blockbuster Video). Turn right at the traffic lights and follow Elm Street for 7/10ths of a mile. The Senior Center driveway is just beyond Saint Patrick Cemetery on the left.

Where can I get Fuel Assistance?
The Tri-CAP Fuel Assistance program serves residents of Everett, Malden, Medford, Stoneham, Winchester and Woburn. It is designed to help low income homeowners and renters pay a portion of the cost of heating (oil, gas, electric, rent if heat is included in the rent) their homes. The program is open beginning in November.

For more information call the Energy Office at 781-322-6284 Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

What is the FOODSOURCE HOTLINE?
Project Bread's FoodSource Hotline can help you find healthy food for you and your family. Trained counselors refer callers to emergency food pprograms as well as food resources in local communities. Counselors can also provide information about food stamps and other nurtrition programs.

This service is availalbe M-F from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1-800-645-8333.

Does the electric company offer a discount to seniors?
If you are currently eligible for fuel assistance or are receiving another means-tested public benefits (Food Stamps, Social Security Supplemental Income, Free or Reduced School Lunch or Breakfast Progrms, etc.) you may also be eligible for NSTAR's Discount Rate. Please call 800-566-2800 any day Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to speak with a customer service representative.

Does the phone company offer a discount to seniors?
Lifeline/Link-Up is a government program that offers qualified people a discount on their monthly local telephone bill. You're eligible for Lifeline if you participate in Mass Health, Fuel Assistance, Food Stamps, receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or participate in Emergency Aid to the Elderly, Disabled and Children (EAEDC) or Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TANF). The application is available at the Senior Center office or by calling Verizon at 1-800-837-4966.


Does the Senior Center sell postage stamps?
No, but you can purchase stamps by phone at 1-800-782-6724 (1-800-STAMP24). Payment is by credit card and the shipping charge is $1.00 for stamps purchased by phone. Stamps can take up to 2 weeks to arrive.

Stoneham belongs to Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) in Malden. What is it?
MVES is a non-profit organization that provides information and services to elders and their caregivers. Their services are focused on helping elders live safely and independently in the setting of their choice. They are a one-stop resource for elder care information, advice, services and solutions for anyone...regardless of age or income.
